Every November, Irish shoppers face the same question: should I buy now on Black Friday, or hold out for Cyber Monday? The honest answer is that it depends on what you’re buying — and which Irish or UK retailers you’re shopping with. We’ve broken it down category by category so you don’t have to guess.

01 · What’s the actual difference?

Black Friday falls on the last Friday of November — in 2026 that’s 27 November. Cyber Monday follows three days later on 30 November. They started as two distinct events: Black Friday was in-store, Cyber Monday was online-only. That distinction has almost completely disappeared. Today most major retailers run deals across both days — and often the entire week in between, now commonly called “Black Friday Week” or “Cyber Week”.

For Irish shoppers shopping online (which is almost everyone, given how few US-style doorbuster stores exist here), the practical difference comes down to which categories each event traditionally favours.

Quick tip

Many Irish and UK retailers now extend deals from as early as Monday 23 November right through to midnight on Cyber Monday. If you see something you want at a good price during that week, don’t wait — stock often runs out before the “better” day arrives.

02 · Which day wins by category

Tech and electronics → Cyber Monday

Cyber Monday has historically been stronger for tech. Laptops, phones, headphones, smart home devices and gaming gear tend to see their deepest cuts on Cyber Monday, particularly from online-first retailers. Irish shoppers can usually find solid deals at Currys, Argos Ireland, and Harvey Norman across both days, but the headline tech discounts — especially on premium brands like Apple, Sony, and Dyson — tend to peak on Cyber Monday.

Fashion and clothing → Black Friday

Fashion is where Black Friday dominates. ASOS, Next, Marks & Spencer, River Island and most Irish clothing retailers push their biggest percentage-off promotions on Black Friday itself. If you’re shopping for clothes, shoes or accessories, Friday is your day. Many fashion deals also sell out in popular sizes over the weekend and don’t restock for Cyber Monday.

Home, furniture and appliances → Black Friday

Big-ticket home items — sofas, beds, kitchen appliances, garden furniture — tend to be discounted most heavily on Black Friday. Retailers like Dunnes Stores Home, Woodies, and B&Q Ireland typically lead their Black Friday promotions with home and garden lines. These deals rarely improve on Cyber Monday.

Beauty and health → roughly equal

Beauty deals are spread fairly evenly across both events. Boots, LookFantastic and most Irish pharmacy chains run promotions through the full week. Gift sets in particular sell out fast on Black Friday, so if you’re building a Christmas gift haul, don’t wait.

Travel → Cyber Monday

Flight and hotel deals tend to be marginally better on Cyber Monday. Aer Lingus, Ryanair and booking platforms have historically timed their biggest travel promotions to Cyber Monday, likely because the space is less crowded than the retail-heavy Black Friday.

Watch out for

Some retailers inflate prices in the weeks before Black Friday so the “50% off” looks more dramatic than it is. If a deal looks too good to be true, check the product on Google Shopping or PriceRunner to see its price history before buying.

03 · The Irish-specific factors

A few things make the Black Friday vs Cyber Monday decision slightly different for shoppers in Ireland compared to the UK or US.

Delivery cutoffs matter more here

If you’re ordering from a UK retailer, standard delivery to Ireland typically takes 3–5 working days. Ordering on Cyber Monday (30 November) means your parcel may not arrive until mid-December — cutting it fine for Christmas. If guaranteed pre-Christmas delivery is important, Black Friday is the safer bet, or look for Irish retailers with local warehousing.

Voucher codes often work across both days

Many of the discount codes published during Black Friday Week remain active through Cyber Monday. If you find a working code on Friday, save it — there’s a good chance it still works on Monday. We keep all active codes updated on our deals page throughout the week.

Irish retailers follow their own schedule

Purely Irish retailers — Penneys, Dunnes, Centra, Supervalu — don’t really participate in the Black Friday / Cyber Monday tradition in the same way UK and international brands do. When Irish stores do run promotions, they tend to call them “winter sales” or “November events” rather than Black Friday, and they don’t necessarily align with the Friday or Monday.

“The best deal is the one you actually get — not the slightly better one that sold out while you were waiting.”

04 · Our verdict

If we had to pick one day for most Irish shoppers, Black Friday edges it. Here’s why:

  • Fashion and home — the two biggest gift categories — peak on Black Friday
  • Stock in popular sizes and colours runs out over the weekend before Cyber Monday
  • Earlier delivery dates are easier to guarantee
  • Many Cyber Monday “exclusive” deals are simply Black Friday deals that weren’t claimed

That said, if you’re primarily shopping for tech or travel, hold out for Cyber Monday. And if you’re flexible, keep an eye on deals from Wednesday of Black Friday Week onwards — the best bargains often appear before either headline day.
